Phisantekraal is a classic triathlon venue in a beautiful setting.

The Louw family have been allowing triathletes onto their farm for years – I first raced here aged 9 – and we can't thank them enough.

The Durbanville triathlon is traditionally the last race of the triathlon season and Raw events always put on a great show

We arrived early, in time to enjoy the sunrise – Phisantekraal has a kind of rugged beauty that just grows on you – at first it seems a bit harsh and bland after all the soft, closed mountain's we are used to but these wide open spaces definitely have their own appeal.

Unlike last year, when the race was delayed for nearly 2 hours whilst we waited for thick mist to clear, this year was clear and suprisingly warm – winter is upon us.
After nearly 5 weeks of no swimming at all due to a serious ear infection, and only having done 2 sets since I started again, I was chuffed to be feeling strong again, and exited the water in 2nd just behind a team swimmer.

Bit of a fumbly transition and hard onto the bike – didn't want to let this team beat me :) Worked really hard and caught the cyclist just after half way, and then tried to put some time into him on the hills. Some fun, loose corners and then charge back down to transition , wasn't so sure how my legs were going to hold up as I had pushed really hard on the bike.

Went out of transition really hard and did my best to maintain form on the run out – I've been struggling with overstepping my left foot – I'm finding that the more you focus on form, the quicker you go.

Back down to the finish and kla! Chuffed with a solid race and win.
